Parents of homeschooled students obtain curriculum or books from a wide variety of sources. This study shows that a majority of homeschooled students had parents who used one or more of the following sources of curriculum or books for their children’s home education: a public library (78 percent); a homeschooling catalog, publisher, or individual specialist (77 percent); a retail bookstore or other store (69 percent); and an education publisher that was not affiliated with homeschooling (60 percent). Approximately half of homeschooled students used curriculum or books from homeschooling organizations. Thirty-seven percent of homeschooled students used curriculum or books from a church, synagogue or other religious institution and 23 percent used a curriculum or books from their local public school or district.

The Crazy Mountain Museum is a historical museum featuring exhibits that reflect the history of Sweet Grass County and the surrounding area. The museum is maintained by the Sweet Grass Museum Society, a non-profit organization. The Sweet Grass Museum Society has its roots in the Pioneer Society founded in the early 1900's. A permanent home was built and completed 1992 and named Crazy Mountain Museum. It is located south of Big Timber on Cemetery Road southeast of the west Interstate exit to Big Timber. The museum has evolved from a display facility located in a building on McLeod Street. In addition to displays, it now includes a research area, including a large master index for individuals mentioned in a wide variety of documents and pictures.

Both the number and the proportion of students in the United States who were being homeschooled increased between 1999 and 2003. Approximately 1.1 million students (1,096,000) were being homeschooled in the United States in the spring of 2003, an increase from the estimated 850,000 students who were being homeschooled in the spring of 1999. In addition, the percentage of the entire student population who were being homeschooled increased from 1.7 percent in 1999 to 2.2 percent in 2003.

ThinkQuest is an international student competition, sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation. Students work in teams to build creative and educational websites that explore globally relevant subjects. Diverse teams made up of members from more than one school, community, or country are encouraged. Competitions are open to students and teachers from anywhere in the world. Teams must have 3 to 6 students who are between the ages of 9 and 19, and one adult Coach who is a school employee. Homeschooled students may participate so long as they are part of a team that is associated with an accredited public, private, or parochial school (i.e., Primary Coach is an employee of an accredited public, private or parochial school and other team members are affiliated with an accredited school). Homeschooled students might consider forming a team with students from another country. Being a member of a multi-country team presents a great opportunity for all students to learn about other cultures and to learn valuable collaboration skills. Spelling is more than just associating letters with sounds and deciphering them. Spelling is an essential element to writing clearly and convincingly. Some programs start testing children right away like at Kindergarten level. However, instead of teaching spelling, a program may add the element of testing. Teaching spelling is one thing and testing spelling is quite another thing.

The Smokejumper Visitor Center is the largest active smokejumper base in the nation. The Smokejumper Visitor Center is a unique opportunity to learn about this unusual, demanding and dramatic occupation. A tour of the facility is also available. As you walk through the center you will visit the National Smokejumper Memorial, go inside a replica of a 1930's lookout tower, and a tour of the smokejumper loft, where the smokejumpers work when they are not fighting fires. Also tour the ready room and load masters room where the smokejumpers prepare for fire calls. Tours are available at 10 and 11:00am, 2, 3, and 4:00pm daily and the tour is free of charge.
